No siempre tenemos el tiempo suficiente para estar pendientes de las noticias de moda y creo que suceden tantas cosas en el mundo que capaz no es nuestra primera opción.
Pero si eres un amante de la moda (como yo) y no tuviste tiempo; aquí vengo al rescate con un pequeño resumen que te hice para que no te pierdas lo más importante de la última semana de la moda en Nueva York.

But if you are a fashion lover (like me) and didn’t have time to check on the last New York Fashion Week, here I come to the rescue with a short summary and to highlight the most important things from that fashion week.
En general, muchos diseñadores se unieron al movimiento «Me too», el cual está en contra del abuso sexual y fue creado por la activista Tarana Burke. La verdad que con esta ola de declaraciones de acoso sexual tanto en hollywood como en la industria de la moda, la moda no debía quedarse atrás en expresar algo al respecto .
Por otro lado, las críticas han dicho que la era gloriosa del New York Fashion Week está por acabar y este año se evidenció ya que no fue muy emocionante para muchos de los editores, entre ellos Susy Menkez.
Ahora un repaso de algunas de los shows que más dieron de qué hablar:
In general, many designers joined the «Me too» movement, which is against sexual abuse and was created by the activist, Tarana Burke. The truth is that with this huge wave of sexual harassment statements both in Hollywood and in the fashion industry, fashion should be used as a form of expression against that.
On the other hand, the critics have said that the glorious era of the New York Fashion Week is coming to an end and this year, many of the editors, among them Susy Menkez; weren’t very amazed.
Now a review of some of the shows that gave more to talk about:
*El sueño sporty de los Millennials: Adidas X Daniëlle Cathari
El New York Fashion Week comenzó con la presentación de Adidas Originals, quienes presentaron una colección hecha por la joven diseñadora Daniëlle Cathari. Además, Kendall Jenner -representando a los millennials- fue la modelo escogida para la campaña y según la diseñadora, musa para la creación de esta colección.
El estilo «athleisure» se vio representado por todo lo alto, los protagonistas fueron los looks icónicos de Adidas pero deconstruidos y lo más coloridos posibles. Desde pantalones para correr, chaquetas, bras deportivos, bodies y camisas manga largas con cortes.
Sin duda, estoy segura que esta colección es el mayor deseo de muchos jóvenes (incluyéndome).
*The sporty dream of the Millennials: Adidas X Daniëlle Cathari
The New York Fashion Week began with the presentation of Adidas Originals, a collection made by the young designer Daniëlle Cathari. In addition, Kendall Jenner -representing the millennials- was the model chosen for the campaign and according to the designer, muse for the creation of this collection.
The «athleisure» style was highly represented, the protagonists were the iconic looks of Adidas but deconstructed and as colorful as possible. From track pants, to jackets, sports bras, bodies and long sleeve shirts with cuts.
Without a doubt, I am sure that this collection is the greatest wish of many of the young people (including myself).
*Tom Ford regresa la extravagancia de los 80’s:
El animal print, las lentejuelas, las bandas en la cabeza, accesorios oversize y los colores vibrantes fueron las tendencias protagonistas de la pasarela. Tom Ford – con su reciente decisión de ser vegano- le quiso dar una lección al mundo de que no es necesario utilizar piel real para lograr una increíble colección y definitivamente, el uso de piel sintética, fue lo que más destacó de su pasarela Otoño-Invierno.
* Tom Ford returns the extravagance of the 80’s:
The animal print, the sequins, the bands on the head, oversize accessories and the vibrant colors were the main protagonists of the catwalk. Tom Ford – with his recent decision to be a vegan – wanted to teach the world that it is not necessary to use real leather to achieve an incredible collection. Definitely the use of faux leather was what stood out the most of its Fall-Winter catwalk.
*El último desfile al mando de la venezolana Carolina Herrera:
Después de 37 años frente a su firma, Carolina Herrera anunció que dejará la dirección creativa en manos de Wes Gordon y que ahora en adelante será la embajadora global.
Por supuesto que su último desfile iba a recordarle al mundo por qué la diseñadora se convirtió en un icono de la moda neoyorquina. El desfile se definió por la elegancia y sofisticación por todo lo alto y resaltaron las famosas camisas blancas, las perlas y los hermosos diseños «ladylike».
Fue muy lindo ver en pasarela los colores de la bandera de Venezuela representados en las faldas uno de tras de otro. Definitivamente Carolina Herrera es uno de los orgullos más grandes de nuestro país.
* The last runway under the command of Venezuelan, Carolina Herrera:
After 37 years in front of her firm, Carolina Herrera announced that she will leave the creative direction in the hands of Wes Gordon and that from now on, she will be the global ambassador.
Of course, her last show was going to remind the world why the designer became an icon of New York’s fashion. The runway was defined by elegance and sophistication, the famous white shirts, pearls and beautiful «ladylike» designs highlighted the runway.
It was very nice to see on the catwalk the colors of the Venezuelan flag represented on the skirts one after the other. Definitely Carolina Herrera is one of the biggest prides of our country.
*La revolución Matrix de Alexander Wang:
La inspiración de Wang vino de la famosa película de los hermanos Wachowski y creo que estuvo perfectamente representada. El «All Black Look» , el cuero, los abrigos hasta el piso y los accesorios metálicos le dieron esa onda de Matrix al desfile, incluyendo el estilo sporty famoso del diseñador.
Una versión futurística y menos juvenil de su colección anterior (que yo personalmente no amé).
* The Matrix revolution of Alexander Wang:
Wang’s inspiration came from the famous movie of the Wachowski brothers and I think it was perfectly represented. The «All Black Look», the leather, the long coats that reached to the floor and the metallic accessories, gave the runway that Matrix vibe, including the famous sporty style of the designer.
This was a futuristic and less juvenile version of his previous collection (which I personally didn’t love).
*La colección de Christian Siriano se adapta a todo tipo de cuerpos
Este diseñador es reconocido por sus looks en alfombras rojas y eso fue el punto central de su desfile pero con una enseñanza bastante importante; no importa el tipo de cuerpo, el diseñador considera que el diseño se adapta al cuerpo y no al revés.
Fue muy lindo ver a un casting de modelos de diferentes tallas, sexo y razas – entre ellas, la modelo plus size Ashley Graham- llevando sus diseños de los cuales destacó el uso del color rojo.
* Christian Siriano’s collection adapts to all types of bodies
This designer is recognized for his looks in red carpets and that was the central point of his show but with a very important lesson; no matter what type of body, the designer considers that the design adapts to the body and not the other way around.
It was very nice to see a casting of models of different sizes, sex and races – among them, the plus size model Ashley Graham – carrying his designs in which highlighted the use of the color red.
*El amor del blanco y azul de Ralph Lauren
El diseñador continúa formando parte del movimiento del «See now, Buy now«, así que presentó una colección para primavera-verano (a diferencia del resto de los diseñadores que mostraron lo que llegará para la próxima temporada de otoño-invierno).
Para esta colección el quiso relajar al público (incluso hasta algunas modelos iban descalzas), con sus diseños inspirados en Jamaica y donde resaltaron los colores más importantes para el diseñador; el blanco y el azul (aunque al final hubo colores vibrantes como el verde,rojo y el amarillo).
La vibra naútica se mostró en casi todos los estampados y accesorios, una visión que no está muy lejos de algo que haya presentado antes. Sin embargo, es indudable que esto es lo que ha hecho al diseñador famoso, la marca Ralph Lauren tiene su concepto y estética y así ha permanecido a lo largo del tiempo, solo que cada vez más renovado.
* The love for white and blue by Ralph Lauren
The designer continues to be part of the «See now, Buy now» movement, so he presented a collection for spring-summer (unlike the rest of the designers who showed what will come for the next fall-winter season).
For this collection he wanted to relax the audience (even some models went barefoot) with his designs inspired by Jamaica and the most important colors for the designer stood out, the white and blue (although in the end there were vibrant colors like green, red and yellow).
The nautical vibes was shown in almost all the prints and accessories, a vision that is not far from something that he has presented before. However, it is undoubted that this is what made the designer famous, the Ralph Lauren brand has the same concept and aesthetic over the time, only that it has been increasingly renewed.
*Victoria Beckham le da un «Hasta Luego» a Nueva York
Si bien le costó un poco de trabajo a Victoria Beckham para ser reconocida como una diseñadora, hoy en día ya se puede confirmar que ha ganado el respeto de los demás. Sin embargo, la diseñadora ya anunció que para celebrar sus 10 años en el mundo del diseño, su próxima colección se presentará en Londres.
La presentación en Nueva York fue dirigida a pocas personas y en un ambiente pequeño ya que, según ella, la idea era que vieran las prendas y la calidad de los materiales de cerca. Las capas, abrigos uno sobre otro, bolsos oversize, animal print, siluetas masculinas y los mocasines fueron algunas de las cosas que se pudieron ver en esta colección.
* Victoria Beckham gives a «See you later» to New York
While it took Victoria Beckham a little work to be recognized as a designer, nowadays it can be confirmed that she has won the respect of others. However, the designer has already announced that to celebrate her 10 years in the world of design, her next collection will be presented in London.
Her last presentation in New York was directed to few people and in a small environment because according to her, the idea was that people could see up close the clothes and the quality of the materials. The layers, coats one over another, oversize bags, animal print, male silhouettes and some loafers were some of the things that could be seen in this collection.
*La ambientación pop de Calvin Klein.
Un granero con fotografías de Andy Warhol, esculturas de Sterling Ruby y el suelo cubierto de palomitas de maíz; así fue la ambientación de invierno que acompañó la colección de Raf Simons.
Inspirado en la película «Safe» de Todd Haynes (no la he visto pero les dejo la referencia), el diseñador presentó una colección en el cual destacaron los pasamontañas de lana, su camisa western, chaquetas estilo bombero, accesorios en plata, vestidos con cortes en el pecho y abrigos de hombros anchos tanto para hombres como mujeres.
* The pop set of Calvin Klein.
A barn with photographs of Andy Warhol, sculptures of Sterling Ruby and the ground covered with popcorn; this was the winter setting that accompanied the collection of Raf Simons.
Inspired by the «Safe» film by Todd Haynes (I haven’t watch it but I leave you the reference), the designer presented a collection in which highlighted the wool ski masks, the western shirt, firefighter style jackets, silver accessories, dresses with cuts in chest and wide-shouldered coats for both men and women.

*La «Pradera gótica» de Coach.
El set del desfile era un poco espeluznante pero iba completamente en sintonía con la colección. Los vestidos por el tobillo fueron los protagonistas de la colección, a parte de los bolsos – que son su principal objetivo de venta- sin embargo, las modelos llevaban un estilismo más gótico que sutil.
Se quería representar América de los 70 con un estilo «western» y «boho chic» con piezas con encajes, bordados, flecos, y una gama de colores otoñales llena de naranjas, marrones, negros y mostaza.
* The «Gothic Meadow» of Coach.
The set of the runway was a bit creepy but was completely in tune with the collection. The dresses by the ankle were the protagonists of the collection, apart from the bags – which are their main selling objective – however, the models wore a more Gothic style than subtle.
They wanted to represent America of the 70s with a «western» and «boho chic» style, with garments with lace, embroidery, fringes, and a range of autumn colors full of oranges, browns, black and mustard.
*El Mix and Match de Michael Kors:
La verdad no fue una colección fuera de lo normal. Con su estilo americano, Michael Kors nos mostró una colección dedicada a las mujeres y de la cual podemos ver lo indispensable que debemos tener en el armario para otoño-invierno.
Lo que si podemos decir es que la mezcla de estampados fue excepcional. Una mezcla superpuesta de tartán, cuadros, animal print, estampado militar, rayas, flores, puntos y colores vibrantes. Combinaciones que en la vida diaria a muchos les costaría llevar pero que, gracias a su desfile, lucieron como una posibilidad.
* The Mix and Match of Michael Kors:
I don’t consider this an unusual collection. With his American style, Michael Kors showed us a collection dedicated to women and the essentials we need to have in our wardrobes for fall-winter.
However, what we can talk about is the incredible mixture of prints. A mix and match of tartan, animal print, military print, stripes, flowers, dots and vibrant colors. Combinations that in the daily life would be difficult for many of us to wear but that the runway surprisingly made us feel like it was a possibility.
*Los 80’s exagerados de Marc Jacobs:
Imagina todo lo característico de los 80’s ( hombreras, cinturones, pantalones holgados) pero llevados a pasarela de una forma «oversize»… pues esa fue la principal característica de la colección para otoño-invierno de Marc Jacobs, adiós al minimalismo y hola al maximalismo.
Para unos fue demasiado pero para otros; la chispa para hacer del New York Fashion Week algo más interesante.
* The dramatic 80’s of Marc Jacobs:
Imagine all the characteristic of the 80’s (shoulder pads, belts, baggy pants) but taken to the catwalk in an «oversize» way. Well, that was the main concept of the Marc Jacobs fall-winter collection, goodbye to minimalism hello to maximalism.
For some people it was too much but for others; the spark to make the New York Fashion Week something more interesting.
